The owner, Soren, is German, and you definitely feel that German sense of efficiency going on here. The black and white monochrome decor is perfect in a place that thrives on crispness and creativity. You'll pay anything from $50-$80 for a cut and blow, more for Soren himself (book early!). Colors and highlights are a specialty, as is permanent weaving - very popular.

Gloriously decadent hair studio that specializes in very creative, bold, bright styles. You'll know this as soon as you walk in, it's dazzling, not so much in a glitzy sense, but in a cornucopia-of-collage sense. The floor is made up of hundreds of glossy magazine covers, and there are antique chairs, lush upholstery and vast mirrors everywhere. It really is a place to fire up the senses, so you can definitely expect a haircut with a difference here, in a good way. Hightower is an artist, and all his stylists are encouraged to let clients express themselves through their hair. They even do wigs here, as well as extensions, and keratin smoothing. Definitely a salon for the bold and the beautiful.

This is a funky, contemporary salon, voted 'Salon of the Year' by Salon Today magazine. The hair stations are state of the art, and there's art of a different kind all over the walls - original pieces by the owners' favorite daubers. With creativity like this all around, it's easy to imagine how creative they can be with your hair. Prices vary considerably, with five different 'style levels'. They're so technically good here, though, that you can save yourself quite a few dollars by going in at Level One, because you're still going to get a fantastic cut from a relative novice. They do beauty packages, too, where you can combine a cut, color, conditioner or deeper treatment, and save on individual pricing.

If you're looking for a regular salon in Atlanta, this one is hard not to return to.

You'll get a glass of wine on arrival, and from thereon in, be treated to superior pampering and cozy chat. Relax in the black and chrome barber chairs, and let the stylists do their thing. They're especially good at executing cuts that really flatter your face shape, particularly if you have short hair. Their deep keratin treatments are also a real treat, and it's a quite beautiful place to sit and unwind for a couple of hours. Maybe you'll get another glass of wine...
