7 Salon
www.7salon.com
600 Pine St. #245
206.903.1777
Sleek, designer salon on Pine Street and Sixth. Up-to-date, contemporary, and usually very busy. The salon looks like a mini-runway, with huge mirrors above each hair station, thick black frames, bold lighting, and a gangway down the middle. It feels like you're backstage at New York Fashion Week, ready to pound the catwalk. All the staff wear black, too, so it's all very stylish. They do great color here, but their cuts are probably what they're most noted for. Adventurous and bold, yet timeless. They have an academy, where clients are encouraged to be spontaneous, and allow the trainees to hone their skills. Well how else are they going to learn?!

Beehive Salon
www.beehivesalon.com
2101 N. 55th St.
206.547.1510
Light, bright salon near Green Lake, which is worth veering out of town for. It's spacious (rents are cheaper out of the CBD, after all), and has a zesty industrial feel, with bright orange walls, chrome roof piping, jazzy pictures and mirrors and some lovely, jade green barber-style chairs. Colors, highlights and bleaching are specialties, and they've recently expanded their hair treatments to include the raved-about Brazilian and Mexican keratin treatments. Bang trims are also complimentary, if your previous cut was done here. Staff are very genial and chatty, and you can combine a hair appointment with body and facial treatments, as well as waxing, make up and event preparation.

Bowie Salon and Spa
www.bowiesalonandspa.com
1507 Belmont Ave.
206.568.3300
Modern, luxury salon in Capitol Hill, voted Best Salon in Seattle for seven consecutive years. It's an elegant space, clutter free, and spotlessly clean. As well as the hair salon, there's also a range of treatment rooms for facials, bodyworks and waxing. This is where Seattle's beautiful people come to be pampered, so expect great things from their colorists and stylists. The vibe here is high end luxury, borne out by the expensive interior decor and the fact that they're members of the prestigious Intercoiffure hairdressing society; an elite organization that sets the trends other salons follow. Obviously, this salon isn't cheap, but you really do get the best of everything, from customer service, to quality of cut, and overall luxury experience.

Gene Juarez Salon and Spa
www.genejuarez.com
607 Pine Street
206.326.6000
Synonymous with the Seattle beauty scene, Gene Juarez Salon & Spa have several outlets in the Washington area, but the flagship salon is the swanky Downtown branch on Pine Street. They're big on well-being here, so they won't just tend to your hair, they'll try and enrich your soul, too. As well as their various spa services, they consider hairdressing to be as fine an art as sculpture, or oil painting, so don't come here for a quick 'in and out' - not at these prices anyway. Every single girl needs time to spoil herself, and this is the place to do it. Each stylist is extensively trained in the 'Gene Juarez look', so if you want your hair to be a statement and for people to know exactly where you just went to get it, these guys fit the bill.

Swink Style Bar
www.swinkstylebar.com
611 Stewart St.
206.673.5070
Seattle's first 'style bar', this is a single girly-girl's dream. It's a big white and pink space on Stewart Street, with flowing net curtains, swinging crystal chandeliers, tons of white furniture and beautiful wooden floors. Plus, of course, mirrors everywhere. A style bar will work with you on your whole look, not just your hair. So if you're after a brand new cut but want to make sure it works with your personality and lifestyle, these guys will help you do that. It's a fun place, with very happy staff, and it's one of the few places you can just drop by for a 'chalking' session - dry colored chalk applied to your hair, $15 for a 15 min application. Perfect for a night out. Other services include 'hair tinseling', feather extensions, make up, and mink lash extensions.

Marco Two Union Square Salon
www.marcotwounionsquare.com
601 Union Street
206.628.8881
A tres, tres sophisticated salon on Union Square, that feels very European, very upmarket, and very indulgent. They call their stylists 'artists', and everybody who works here looks like they just stepped out of the pages of a period magazine. Colors and treatments are a specialty, and all products used are either L'Oreal Professional or Thalgo - because you're worth it! Manicures, waxing and make-up are additional services offered here, but a spectacular haircut is the sole reason you should come here. Just saying you were 'done' at Marco's, is enough to open doors in this city.

Lisa Power Salon
www.lisapowersalon.com
536 Fifth Ave., W.
206.216.2900
Friendly, unpretentious salon in Lower Queen Anne, owned and run by the eponymous Ms Power. Creative haircuts and colors are the core services, and they stock a vast range of different product names, from DS Laboratories and Coppola, to I.C.O.N and Davines. Knowing they aren't tied to specific brands, means they aren't biased when it comes to advising on aftercare for your hair. The big plus about this salon, is that they do 'style coaching', where they put a brush and dryer in your hands and physically teach you how to maintain your style when you're back home. We all love looking a million dollars when we leave a salon, but being shown how to keep it going in the days, weeks and months before your next cut, is priceless, especially for single girls.

Set Salon
www.setseattle.com
2608 Third Avenue
206.441.2989
This cute, boutique salon in Belltown puts as much work and effort into their styling as they did on their interior decoration. It's a very fashionable place, with exposed brick, patterned feature walls, mahogany furniture and a French drawing room feel. The services on the hair menu, and the number of staff, are both small, but that's what I like about this place - no fuss, just gorgeous hair in a gorgeous place, done by gorgeous people. Needless to say, you'll feel gorgeous yourself once you walk out. Prices are very reasonable, compared to some of the other, more central, big-name salons. If you like a more personal service in a quieter, less frenetic salon, this is the perfect place.

Adele Salon
www.salonsuede.com
4224 Fremont Avenue North
206.628.8881
Named after the owner's grandmother, this salon prides itself on technical excellence, style verve and their signature 'Diamond Cut', incorporating a precision cut with an added glaze. It's a boutique salon, with quirky decor, but still quite a homely feel. There are only a handful of stylists here, so you'll have to book well in advance, but they offer the whole gamut of services, from cut, color, perm, relaxing and blowouts, to glazes, deep conditioning and Balayage. It's the perfect salon for single girls, because the owner and her staff are entirely in tune with what's current and in vogue, often ahead of their CBD counterparts.

Vain Hair Salon
www.vain.com
2018 1st Ave.
206.441.3441
With three salons in Seattle, their flagship store in Downtown prides itself on combining hair services with an art gallery, boutique, and a community space for use by Seattle's artistic trendsetters. It started life as a beauty boutique, then installed a single chair at the back of the store, where owner Victoria would chop into people's hair. That idea has evolved into today's VAIN, which is like a co-operative, providing cutting edge hair cuts, complimented by VAIN's own product range, as well as offering space and events for local artists and residents to express themselves. Clients can sit and get their hair done, surrounded by original artwork, knowing that, upstairs, 20 of those artists are hard at work in their own studios - all part of the VAIN community. If you're a hippie at heart, you'll love this place. Style consultations are free, and touch-up trims are also complimentary.
